Henry Callahan Portfolio
“. . . and like Rothko, Callahan possesses a powerful sense of composition.
Henry’s paintings reflect landscapes as backdrops to the variety of moods
he conjures with line and contour applied in acrylic paint on the surface
of canvases, which are well worked.”
- Franklin Sermans, Curator & former Editor, Flash-Art, 2000.
Henry Callahan’s life has been dedicated to the creative process. Always fascinated with two and three dimensional spatial relationships, Henry has constantly sought new and exciting combinations of texture, form, and color.
Callahan, who was schooled as a graphic designer, earned his BFA degree from Auburn University. He has worked in a number of creative positions from art director to owner of a marketing communications business in the northeast Us for over thirty years. Currently he explores his own creative direction through painting, a calling he has pursued on a fulltime basis since 2000. Henry lives in South Florida where he garners inspiration for his work from the tropical environment, ocean, sky, and the incomparable clarity of light and color. His work is exhibited along the East coast from New York to South Florida.
“This body of work continues to explore my fascination with combining multiple layers of color to create depth and dimension. And the build-up surface textures combined with transparent layers of paint create a range of multi-dimensional qualities. The result a blend of light and shadow, color and transparency that creates a portal into the personal world of the viewer. Reflecting nature, these works suggest mountains, seas, forests, and desert environments.” Henry Callahan
